What is Shmanga?

Shmanga is a made up word inspired by the term Sangha — community in Sanskrit. Shmanga, when pronounced, has the word Shema embedded in the beginning sound. Shema literally means ‘listen’ or ‘pay attention’ in Hebrew, which resonates with Shmanga’s mindful intentions.

Shmanga is a “space” for cultivating meeting experience just as it is, with kindness and compassion, through formal meditation and mindfulness practices — in order to live a more wakeful life.

About The Teacher

Tania Lowenthal is a mindfulness and meditation consultant, student, practitioner, and teacher, originally from Cali, Colombia. Tania is not only a life long learner, but an educator, with twenty five years of working in education — helping schools grow in mindful alignment with their mission, purpose, and vision. She is the creator and leader of Shmanga, a weekly in person (and now online) gathering, where she practices and shares a broad range of mindfulness modalities and meditation practices combining a bit of dharma, a bit of Torah, a bit of science, and a whole lot of human connection. In 2021, Tania completed a year long mindfulness teacher training with The Mindfulness Training Institute. She holds a masters degree from The Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, CA in Jewish studies with an emphasis in Spirituality. As a mindfulness consultant, Tania has a vision that goes beyond meditation and mindfulness — aspiring to help people live as if their lives depended on it! She currently lives in Mill Valley, California with her partner of 25 years, and quadruplet teenagers, with whom she gets to practice mindfulness in real time every day.
